How To Declutter Your Bedroom This Spring

Declutter Bedroom

You might find yourself at home practicing “social distancing” due to current circumstances. There’s only so many movies you can watch before feeling bored and unmotivated. If you have time on your hands while you’re sitting in your apartment, then this can be the perfect time to declutter your bedroom. After all, it is spring, and spring cleaning is always a great idea to make you feel refreshed. Decluttering may sound daunting, but today we are taking it step by step to help your spring cleaning efforts without overwhelming you. So how do you declutter your bedroom this spring?

The First Step

Starting is without a question the hardest part. You may feel as though there are too many things to do, so where do you even begin? Start by taking some time to create a checklist of everything you want to accomplish. That way, you know what needs to be done, and you have the satisfaction of checking tasks off when you complete it. Once your list is complete, blast your favorite song to jumpstart your efforts. Create a playlist with fun songs that will make you want to declutter your bedroom. Turn that playlist on, and get ready to start your decluttering journey.

Your Bed

Clean Bedroom

Your bed, the humble abode in which you slumber, is one of the most important things in your bedroom. Start by stripping your sheets and pillowcases, and throwing them in your washer. Once that’s done, make your bed, and fluff your pillows. You’re bound to feel refreshed after seeing a freshly made bed with clean sheets.

Don’t forget to purge anything under your bed. Get rid of anything you don’t need, I’m taking about that random shoe box and gift wrapping paper you threw under your bed. Once you have taken everything out from under your bed, organize the items into different bins. Choose organization bins and containers that can still fit under your bed. You can go to sleep knowing your bed has successfully been decluttered during spring cleaning.

Your Closet and Dresser

Your closet seems like the toughest part of your bedroom to declutter, but don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be complicated. Start by doing all your laundry. While you wait for your laundry to get done, clean out what you have hanging in your closet. Now is the perfect time to put your winter wardrobe away. Store your bulky coats in a separate bin or in the back of your closet. Take note of what you didn’t wear this winter, and consider donating or selling it. Decide how you want to organize your closet and dresser. You can organize your clothes by season, color, type of clothing, style, etc. Choose what works best for you, but just make sure you’re not putting clothes away at random. Your laundry should be done by now, so fold, hang, and put away your clean clothes.

If you have accessories like hats, belts, and bags randomly thrown in your closet, use command hooks for the ultimate organization hack. Put command hooks on the back of your closet door, or on the walls (depending on how big your closet space is), and hang your items on each hook. You will save space, and it’s easier to see all your accessories on display, so coordinating your next outfit will be a breeze.

Your Desk, Nightstand, and Vanity

Decluttered Nighstand

First things first, wipe down the surface any desks, nightstands, or vanities in your room. Get rid of any trash or items you don’t need. Wipe any nicknacks or room decor items you have. If any of your furniture pieces have drawers, open them up and get rid of any items in there that you don’t need or items that you haven’t used in the past month. Save space by using trays or bowls to hold loose items like necklaces, rings, earrings, etc.

If you keep any makeup products on your desk, then look through each item, and throw anything away anything that’s expired. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you don’t need to hold onto that two year old eyeliner pencil. Makeup carries a lot of bacteria, so it’s good to take inventory, and get rid of any expired products. Tip: most makeup products have a little makeup container icon on the label that will say a number and the letter M. For example, 6M. This means that the product expires six months after your purchase date.

Keep your chargers untangle and wrapped properly. You may not realize, but things like chargers can make your desk feel more unorganized than it really is. Take some time to sort through any paper or mail that you have piled up, and file them in its correct place. You’re bound to feel more inspired when you find yourself at a desk that’s clutter-free.

The Final Touches

Your bed, closet, and desks are now decluttered. The time has now come to clean and wipe down everything else. Dusting is your new best friend. Vacuum your carpet, or sweep your wood floors. Dust your windows and blinds. Be sure to wipe down any shelves and the items on the shelves. If you have any picture frames used for bedroom decor, dust those as well. Take out the trash in your room, and pack items up that you wanted to donate.

Enjoy Your Decluttered Bedroom

After completing all those decluttering tasks, your room is refreshed just in time for the new spring season. Once your room is decluttered, hopefully it will lead you to feeling more inspired with your time at home, or you can always enjoy binge watching in a clean room. Stay safe this spring season, and happy decluttering!
